Liz Kennedy, Financial Advisor
Fair Lawn, NJ

When Liz Kennedy reentered the workforce after time at home with her children, she had two opportunities to become a financial advisor: one with Edward Jones and one with a large wirehouse. She chose the wirehouse for what felt like a short‑term gain, but a decision she would later rethink.

During her time there, Liz experienced a life‑altering accident.

“I had a horrific fall and was rendered handicapped. Doctors were unsure if I would walk again,” she recalled. “Although my business was strong, [the wirehouse] lacked support.”

While Liz focused on her recovery, the wirehouse paused her business and reassigned her clients. When she eventually returned, she learned her production clock would restart, forcing her to rebuild her practice under a tight timeline. The experience left her feeling disappointed and searching for an environment that aligned with her needs and values.

That’s when she contacted Edward Jones.

ASSOCIATE TESTIMONIAL

  • I called Edward Jones and told them what had happened including the full details of my recovery. They welcomed me with open arms, offered me an opportunity and told me to focus on my recovery without any pressure, said Kennedy. “I was blown away by that.”

Liz recovered, and encouraged by the firm’s response and purpose‑driven culture, joined Edward Jones in 2022. What she found was a community defined by support, connection, and collaboration, all qualities she hadn’t experienced before.

The home office teams and local financial advisors actively encouraged her recovery and helped her restart her practice with confidence. Mentorship wasn’t an exception; it was the norm.

“When I tell other professionals in my network that they’ll get help from other local financial advisors, they think I’m kidding,” she said. “Edward Jones recognizes financial advisors for helping their fellow colleagues.”

Liz’s experience reflects the collaborative nature of the firm’s unique partnership structure. Because Edward Jones is one of the largest privately held partnerships in the industry, financial advisors can focus on clients and community without feeling like they’re competing with colleagues.

The culture drew her in—yet it was the opportunity for partnership that ultimately defined her decision.

“Edward Jones is owned by the employees of the firm, including financial advisors, and that’s so unique to the industry. Becoming a partner is an extraordinary opportunity.”
